"As the river gives itself into the ocean, what is inside me moves inside you." ~ Kabir

Darshan is the Sanskrit word that literally means sight. However, this sight is not the physical eyes, seeing. Rather it is the touch of Grace, bestowed upon the devotee. This touch is one of the highest offerings of the Divine. Although the greatest poets might try, no name can touch the boundlessness of Darshan. Gratefully, Silence is infinitely eloquent. Sri Ramana Maharshi refers to this Silence as: "ever-speaking; it is the perennial flow of 'language'. It is interrupted by speaking; for words obstruct this mute 'language'. Lectures may entertain individuals for hours without improving them. Silence, on the other hand, is permanent and benefits the whole of humanity."

When this pure and perfect opening in sight actuates spontaneously, it reveals the true nature of the devotee, who need only be ripe, ready and willing. It is undoubtedly a blessed moment when the Grace of Guru/Self imparts Darshan. Now, everything is exposed in the light of Self-knowledge, shining away the illusion of all misperception. Moreover, the instant that the eyes of the Guru/Self gaze into the eyes of the devotee, spoken words are no longer necessary. As Sri Ramana Maharshi continues: "Mouna [silence] is the best and the most potent diksha [blessing]. Silent initiation changes the hearts of all."

Truly, the gift of Darshan unwinds the knots of the egoic mind, opens the windows of the soul, and leaves the devotee in a space of liberation, free from the ego's story of 'me' and 'mine'. Often, the devotee rides waves of bliss. Still, the most essential transformation is the recognition that there is no duality, no physical body, and no mind left to contain the ego. Nothing is ever quite the same thereafter, for even if a thin veil of the egoic mind remains, thoughts are never taken seriously again as the devotee realizes that he/she is one with the Guru/Self. Forever, the fire of Self-knowledge burns from within, and all is seen in the light of impenetrable Love ... for God's face is everywhere.

May all beings experience Darshan and be free.

Dearest Ones ~

As we share the Grace and wisdom that Love so generously offers, may we never forget that we serve the most when we honor and respect one another as One.

This intent extends to all of our brothers and sisters as we meet on the crossroads of our perfect and unique paths of destiny. Some will have quite a bit of experience while others will be beginners along the collective passageway of our spiritual unfolding. I trust we will be kind and equally patient with everyOne.

In my humble experience, I have found that our core strength resides in the understanding that it is important to acknowledge our appreciation for what each of us brings to the table of Life. As such, each of you is so precious to me, and I thank you for being an essential part of my spiritual family.

Life Altering

I am finding Kundalini yoga to be an incredibly powerful path to self-healing. It is giving me the strength to walk away from everything that no longer resonates with my intuitive heart wisdom without second guessing myself, defending my choices or making someone else wrong in the process. I am also aware of many shifts and changes in my auric field as I feel lighter, more peaceful, creative, and splendidly blissful. As ever, what remains is great love and a call to service, flowing through the Self. Simply put, Kundalini yoga is Life altering.

To Consider ~

As a society, we support extremely violent films and then, we wonder why we attract so much extreme violence in our society. I'm not condoning what happened in Colorado, but I do encourage everyone to look within and examine what we are choosing to reflect in this moment.

We all have this singular opportunity to educate and to raise awareness. Moreover, in seeing our own capacity to generate violent behavior based on fear, anger and suspicion, we open a space for the deeper healing of our collective consciousness to happen.

Love: The Ultimate Healer

I was recently asked, "What can people do to clear up bad karma from the past?"

All too often, old karma manifests itself in feelings of guilt and inadequacy. Essentially, we are all innocent, and everything is forgiven as each moment clears away the past without a trace of karma. However in order to become a witness to our innocence, we must be in a space in which we are not holding onto grudges. Thus, we can create a shift in perspective and see our true nature ever more clearly. For this reason, the question might be better posed, "How can I heal my own misperceptions?"

In my experience, an effective approach begins with the acknowledgement, "If I knew better, I would do better." This statement is only constructive if we are truly prepared to do better. Otherwise, it is simply an avoidance tactic that temporarily frees us from fully owning our responsibility to initiate the healing process. To be an able participant in healing the past, we must be willing to remain open and to allow love to speak for us.

Sadly, so very few of us have been conditioned to trust in love to do its work. In fact, most of us realize through the indifferent reaction we get from others that our love alone is not quite good enough. Besides, the path of openness and love never serves the ego, which is why we so often reject the obvious solution. Something extra is wanted, and in the throes of wanting, the apparent healing capacity of love is all too easily overlooked.

And still, this is my soul response, "Offer love and recognize that love is the ultimate healer regardless of how it is, or is not, received."

The Miracle of the Heart

Someone recently asked, "How do we overcome our pride in order to forgive another person?"

In my experience, we begin by loving and accepting even our pridefulness for this is the pathway of true compassion. Moreover, as we welcome the messiness of our own shortcomings, whatever they might be, we open a gateway to self-forgiveness. From this vantage point, there is no longer "other," and the essence of our Oneness can be seen finally and completely. This beautiful invitation to inner peace is the miracle of the Heart.

A Double Blessing ~

What a blessing it is to recognize that we are all doing our best. Moreover, it is a double blessing to realize that our best will continue to get better as we evolve emotionally and spiritually. In truth, our capacity to deepen is as unlimited as the Universe is infinite. For this reason, it is essential that we remain loving and patient with ourselves.

I always like to remind myself that it is a long song, and we can only hear a few notes at a time because the entire symphony is beyond anything the human ears can imagine. Still, as the strains of the celestial magic play for us always, on the silence of the gentlest breeze, we are receiving vast wisdom as the frequencies meld with the vibration of our auric field… such a powerful witnessing and listening as each note plays in a different color and interweaves itself with such magnificence.

The Treasure

You have heard that every buried treasure has a snake guarding it. Kiss the snake to discover the treasure! ~ Rumi

One of the questions that continuously crops up in my consulting practice is, "How do we know when we have really forgiven someone?"

There is a tendency to intellectualize that we have forgiven when in fact, we have yet to let go whole-heartedly. As a result, all that we accomplish is to rationalize away all of our personal power when it would serve us so much more effectively to face ourselves in the mirror. Moreover, when we superficially forgive someone, there remains a powerful residue of resentment that causes a negative thought stream to arise, seemingly out of nowhere, when we least expect it. If the bitterness is buried deeply enough, the unhealed wound might even play out in a dream. Likewise, those of us who have done shadow work understand that an unresolved issue often exhibits itself in dysfunctional and secretive behavioral patterns that lead to further guilt and shame. Sadly, this approach merely aggravates and delays the forgiveness process.

It is only when we allow the hurt feelings to surface that they can be fully healed in the light of clarity, openness and acceptance. Furthermore, we must be prepared to continue this exercise of meeting ourselves as often as necessary with steadfast patience and undying courage. It is a blessed moment when we grasp that we can only resolve a memory of suffering, conflict or betrayal when we befriend it and completely embrace it. From this vantage point, and with honesty and appreciation, we realize that every life event is a gift. We also discover that the treasure, which the snake is guarding, is our very freedom. Blissfully, the instant that we are willing to kiss the snake, we affirm with our entire being that we have truly released the past once and for all.

The Living Matrix

Each of us is a particle of light in a grand and complex interweaving of wisdom, love and compassion, known as the living matrix of the Universe. It is through this living matrix that our legacy - the healing of body, mind and spirit - happens. May we rediscover our true nature as spiritual beings and once again, reclaim our birthright in the name of Love.

Self ~ Respect

Respect is complete acceptance of who we are in each moment. If we don't respect ourselves, how can we possibly respect one another? Likewise, how can we expect someone, who has not yet learned to respect themselves, to respect us. Eventually, it is seen that all respect must begin with self-respect because we are connecting with something deeper within ourselves. Moreover, we are trusting God's light to shine through us. When we whole-heartedly revere the light of our innermost being, something beautiful begins to happen. We become that which is sacred. We discover that we are both steady and pliable, flexible and strong, releasing and holding fast. We move with the winds of life and in so doing, we become one with the dance of Grace.

Choosing Freedom

The concept of projection is quite similar to the concept of the reversal of cause and effect. This is the reason our expectations are seen as linear. As such, the ego creates an expectation based on what it is feeling and then looks for indications in the world around it that its expectation is right on. For example, if we are feeling unhappy, we will have a tendency look to the world to validate our reasons for being unhappy.

However, when we are truly honest with ourselves, we come to realize that we are not our feelings, thoughts or emotions. Simultaneously, we can easily appreciate the insight that true happiness must arise from within.

I love this offering from A Course in Miracles that is a reflection of the same wisdom:

Every brother [sister] you meet becomes a witness for Christ or for the ego, depending on what you perceive in him. Everyone convinces you of what you want to perceive, and of the reality of the kingdom you have chosen for your vigilance. Everything you perceive is a witness to the thought system you want to be true. Every brother has the power to release you, if you choose to be free. ~ ACIM. Chapter 11. V. The "Dynamics" of the Ego

Today, I am choosing Freedom.

Breaking Free

Your way begins on the other side. Become the sky. Take an axe to the prison wall. Escape. Walk out like someone suddenly born into color. ~ Rumi

When my son was going through one of his growth spurts as a teenager, his legs would sometimes hurt. I would smile and tell him that he was having growing pains because his feet were developing at a faster rate than his legs, stretching the muscles in odd ways.

It is the same for the traveler on the spiritual path as the auric field begins to shift. A feeling of discomfort is experienced because there is still a resistance or a holding onto old, familiar patterns of conditioning. This unease is aggravated by a swinging back and forth between love and fear that can create quite a bit of suffering in the process. Moreover while the Heart chakra is opening quite naturally and with great ease, the mind is still reminding us to take care and be distrustful of people or life situations that have deceived us in the past.

With practice and awareness, we become more comfortable with a new sense of peace and well being that is taking over. Gratefully, at some point, we realize that all suffering is a prison of our own making. As we break free of the walls around us, we open to the spaciousness of our true Self. And yes, suddenly, there is color everywhere.

The Wayshower

During deep sleep, the snow comes ever so silently. One might not even know it is happening until the light of day shifts the landscape from the dark sheen of night to a pure glistening white. Unlike rain, which pellets the window panes and the rooftops, announcing itself in no uncertain terms, snow is like the recluse, the hermit in the mountains.

Likewise, there is a discernible fork on the spiritual path. Once the liberated one opens her eyes to truth, she reaches a choice point, a living crossroads so to speak. While one person may tend to be like snow and take the quiet, solitary route, another could be more inclined to sound a trumpet to offer a comprehensive account of what is possible via the way to freedom and the awakening experience.

Certainly, one branch of the road is neither better nor worthier than any other. However, the more vocal approach will most likely create controversy and sometimes great conflict as there can be vast resistance in a world so heavily invested in a form-based reality. Although no one can guide another to the end of Self-realization, both the silent one and the outspoken one disclose an invaluable and clear course forward for others to follow.

Regardless, whether one is to be like snow or to be like rain, the Wayshower must be committed to truth and freedom absolutely whole-Heartedly.
